HOW DOES IT WORK?
Acupuncture is probably the most well-known aspect of a 3,000 year old form of holistic medicine that also includes herbal remedies, dietary recommendations, exercise (Tai Qi & QiGong), and meditation to re-establish or maintain the body’s harmonious, energetic balance.
At the core of this ancient medicine, is the philosophy that Qi (pronounced “chee”),or Life Energy, flows throughout the body to animate and protect it from illness, pain and disease. Flowing along a network of energetic pathways called channels or meridians, life-giving Qi is transported throughout the body to nourish the entire organ system. When Qi flows freely, good physical, mental, and emotional well being ensues, if it is blocked or impeded, illness and disease occur. As a holistic system of healing, Traditional Chinese Medicine, therefore, views disease not as a series of isolated symptoms or diseased organs, but rather as an expression of disharmony within the entire Body-Mind-Spirit complex. In accordance with this view, inserting tiny needles along these channels at areas of maximum energy can clear blockages, re-balance the flow of Qi, and promote the body’s innate ability to heal itself.
