ABOUT YOUR PRACTITIONER

Evelyn Westermann Asher, L.Ac., Ph.D.

I received my training in acupuncture and Chinese Medicine at the Maryland Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, in Bethesda, MD. Following graduation, I opened a private practice in Bethesda, studied the BioSET® Allergy Elimination Technique with Dr. Ellen Cutler, and continued post graduate work in detoxification and enzyme therapy with Dr.Weilin Liu of Washington, D.C.  A long-time resident of the Rochester area, I relocated my practice to Upstate New York in 2007.

With a Ph.D. in German from the University of California, Berkeley, I taught for many years at major educational institutions, including the University of Rochester.  Throughout the years, however, I maintained my passion for medicine and decided in 2001 to embark on a new career path.  I had been exposed to many forms of natural healing as a child and had the opportunity to experience the power of Western medicine first hand while doing biochemistry research and by working in medical labs and hospitals.

I believe that this involvement in traditional and natural medicine has prepared me well for my current focus on integrative methods of treatment.
It also made me realize the importance of introducing patients to gentler, non-invasive modes of healing, focusing on the “whole” person rather than “managing” symptoms.

I firmly believe that improvements in health and well-being are always possible, no matter what the current condition may be, and I encourage my patients to become actively involved in their own healing.

An educator at heart, even now that I have left the academy, I continue to keep up with current research regarding effective new treatments in acupuncture and Chinese Medicine by taking several advanced education seminars each year. I also try to stay informed about the many, potential threats to our health and well-being, be it through nutrition, environment, or life-style.  In sharing this information with my patients, I hope to provide them with the knowledge and ability necessary to care for themselves and their families.

I am also a certified “Life Without Limits™” Tachyon energy practitioner and have employed this powerful, but gentle mode of healing for stress-release, and emotional balancing. Similar to acupuncture, but without needles, Tachyon energy treatments are particularly well suited for children and “needle-phobic” patients.

Using a variety of modalities in conjunction with acupuncture, it is my goal to help restore my patients to optimal health and to provide them with the necessary tools and knowledge for maintaining  the delicate body-mind-spirit balance essential for leading a happy and healthy life.
